Mr. Marmalade (Play)

Mr. Marmalade

I just got back from a play I saw downtown at the Stages Repertory Theatre. I saw a very demented play by the name of Mr. Marmalade. Here is what the back of the program I received says:

“In this grown-up play about playing grown-up, Lucy is a precocious four-year-old with an alarmingly adult imagination. Her imaginary friend Mr. Marmalade comes accessorized with cell phone, personal assistant and a very busy schedule, and when he misses their tea-party date (again), Lucy dumps him for the suicidal five-year-old next door. In a disturbingly funny whirlwind of food fights, porno mags, tea sets and cocaine habits, Lucy enacts a wild vision of adult dysfunction as seen through a child’s eyes..”

I think it’s necessary to add to this because you’re probably going “What the hell is that all about?” So, here’s what the Houston Chronicle wrote:

“Neglected by her single mother, precocious 4-year-old heroine Lucy has conjured up an imaginary friend who is as far from Peter Rabbit as one could imagine.
Mr. Marmalade is a business tycoon too busy to make much time for the tea parties Lucy plans for him — given career pressures, a cocaine habit and his physical abuse of his personal assistant, Bradley, who keeps turning up in increasingly battered condition to apologize to Lucy for Mr. Marmalade’s absence.
Mr. Marmalade’s involvement with Lucy, in fact, threatens to veer from the psychological abuse of neglect to physical mistreatment. Obviously, he is the repository of all the horrendous realities she has learned of adult behavior, whether from the grown-ups she’s encountered or from trashy TV.
Larry, Lucy’s real-life, 5-year-old neighbor — and the youngest attempted suicide in New Jersey history (as the bandages on his wrists attest) — learns of Lucy’s situation and dares to rival Mr. Marmalade for her attention.”

Mr. Marmalade

The play, along with the 15 minute intermission, lasted a little over 2 hours. Both acts happen in the living room, so the only props on the stage was a couch, a coffee table, a television, and two chairs. Oh, and the front door to their house was used as an entryway to “real-life” characters of the play. A giant thought bubble off to the left of the stage represented Lucy’s thoughts and that is where her imaginary friends entered the stage when they needed to. It was extremely humorous and very lewd, so if you’re sensitive to adult humor I don’t advise you to see this. I however thought it was the greatest play I’ve seen. I was in a theatre with about 100 other people so it was a very “up-close and personal” type of play, which just made it so much easier for me to become involved in it :) Most of the adult humor consisted of many, many curse words and sexual themes. Basically, it’s about a little girl being tugged into her imagination and what she sees as being an adult, and how the events that take place thrust her back into her 5 year-old childhood where she really belongs. After coming up with my full opinion on this, I give Mr. Marmalade Four out of Four stars four stars.

Ipod Touch

I’m getting an iPod Touch as a graduation gift from my mother / grandparents :) How cool is that? Totally cool. I haven’t wanted one up until recently when I got a chance to actually play with one. They are so neat! Especially having WiFi and the cool album scroller and stuff :D It’d be especially neat because Houston is trying to implement a new city-wide WiFi service..that means I could access the internet anywhere within the WiFi limits. I also made sure the one my mother ordered was an updated version because they have new things like Google Maps and stuff. Once I get it I’m going to try and customize it as much as possible too :P I’m excited..It was shipped out early today and I bought the $5 3 day shipping, but FedEx says it’s estimated arrival time is May 27th :( That’s so not three days, and I know you don’t count weekends, but I guess that’s close enough to three business days as they could get! I know I don’t graduate for another two weeks, but I wanted to get it a little early because there’s going to be many opportunities for me to use it at school coming up next week and the week after :) Plus, I can sneak it in and listen to it at graduation so I don’t have to listen to all 800 names being said ;)

So I’m going to work on a new theme today! I’m tired of this one, and since summer is coming up I figured I would make a theme that would be more appropriate :D As soon as I can think of what to do, I’ll get to creatin’ and have it up in no time. And by the way, where have all my comments gone! I love hearing from you guys and I haven’t had any comments but one lately :( C’mon guys, leave me some lovin’ :P

Senioritis

I am definitely feeling the symptoms of senioritis now. There are only 9 more days of “real school” left. If you want to get technical, there are 13, but the last four days of school is exam week, and I only have to come for a couple hours a day. Then it’s graduation on June 6th! I have never been more ready than now for summertime..I have a feeling this is going to be the best summer of my life, considering I have a car now and I want to be doing all that I can do with my friends over the break. Then it’s college I have to look forward to. I’m going to be attending a local community college because it’s so much cheaper and I’ll be getting the same education/credit with less students in each class. I learn a lot better that way :) and plus, I don’t feel like I’m prepared enough to move 200 miles away from my family to attend UT. I’ve checked with the school and they say all my credits I take at San Jac will transfer to their school, as long as they are core class credits (english, math, science, etc.) so that’s what I’ll be taking come August. I’m going to try for at least a 15 hour schedule, which really isn’t that bad. Right now I go to school for 25 hours in a week. 15 hours seems so much easier, and anyway I’m a year ahead in English! I have 6 hours completed already :D so that’s 24 more hours to go..I guess I could get away with taking only 12 hours a semester then. I’ll just have to think about it when the time comes.
Anyway, so I’ve been really good with keeping up with my Quilting Bee stuff, even my honeybee voting and workerbee reports :D Especially the activity going on right now. It’s really fun and if you’re not a member of the quilting bee I urge you to join :D
Yesterday I was on my feet for a total of 8 hours, and I’m going to go get a pedicure today :D So I must end this blog a bit shorter than I intended. Leave me some comments, I’ve been missing getting to read all of you guys comments to my blogs! :)

 Thanks: Holly .

Katt Williams Isn’t THAT Funny!

So, my boyfriend has been telling me I need to watch Katt Williams: American Hustle with him. So, it’s on right now, and where is he? he’s sleeping! God forbid I want to take a nap when it’s going to come on, but he ends up passing out right before it comes on. Oh well. It’s not that good of a movie anyway! He isn’t even that funny!

Well, prom went perfectly. I have a lot of pictures but I’m not going to spend time right now putting them up ’cause I’m lazy :P I’ve been working on the net Q*Bee activity. It’s another tea party! There hasn’t been one since 2005 and I’m glad it’s going on again :D! Plus all the newer members since 2005 will get to participate in it also. So go check out my Q*Bee page to see that!

I’ve been extremely busy with school lately. I have a final coming up on Wednesday for English 1302. I turned in my 6 page essay on this last Wednesday and I really hope I did okay on it. I think it’s 40% of the final grade! That’s a big chunk. I’m pretty confident about the final though. Most of the questions are going to be over literary terms and Oedipus Rex. Not that hard at all!

So, basically what I’m trying to say is don’t expect updates until summer. I graduate in a month and I cannot be any more excited and overworked than I am right now. June 6 is my graduation date, so after that I won’t have anything to do (unless I end up getting a job) and I’ll be able to update a lot more often!

 Thanks: Lisa .
